Rev. Richard Pot was born in Tasmania in 1972, but spent most of his childhood years in Perth, Western Australia, where his father was a Christian school teacher. After receiving a Christian education at local Reformed schools, he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Classical Greek at The University of Western Australia.

In 1993, Richard moved to Canada to pursue the four year Master of Divinity programme at the Canadian Reformed Theological Seminary. After completing his studies, Richard was ordained on 28 September 1997 as a Minister of the Word in the Orangeville Canadian Reformed Church, where he spent seven years. The following five years he served as minister of the Pilgrim Canadian Reformed Church of London, Ontario.

In July 2009, he moved back to Australia with his family, after accepting a call to serve as the minister of the Free Reformed Church of West Albany, where he served nearly ten years. Since February 2019 he has been the minister of the Free Reformed Church of Bunbury, where his primary responsibilities include preaching, teaching, and pastoral care.

Richard married Monica de Vos in July 1995, and the Lord has blessed their marriage with five children: Byron, Kara, Nathan, Chantal, and Alyssa. The Pot family lives in the city of Bunbury, Western Australia.
